'Tallica Taps Rubin

To me this is promising. Billboard is saying Metallica is turning to Rick Rubin to produce their next album. Rubin has been behind the knobs for some great albums. I liked his work with the Chili Peppers (Blood Sugar Sex Magik), Run DMC (Raising Hell) and The Cult (Electric).

I thought Bob Rock did some great work with Metallica, probably still about my favorite band (along with the Foos and The Beatles and Green Day and Def Leppard and Queen). But I think they were starting to tread water musically with him. Get too comfortable. We need an uncomfortable Metallica.

You know what makes for an uncomfortable metallica? Metal up your ass! Or was that Anthrax?

Actually, what makes Lars uncomfortable is the idea of free radio, and the fact that cover bands exist who are making money without paying him.

It's just too easy anymore.

Surprised you're no longer owning up to Warrant as a favorite band. ;)

It was Metallica with the Metal up your Ass!

You should still see Some Kind of Monster before you pass complete judgement on Lars' Napster fight. They were right, in principle, but it was a horrible move politically for them, I think. They weren't losing THAT much money to illegal downloads - and the fight cost them most of their street cred.

Don't diss Warrant. I still claim them. In fact, was listening to the Cherry Pie album just the other day on the way home from work. They had some good songs. And some not so good ones. Stay tuned for my Friday list inspired by your post, Scott.
