TIME For Huck?
The Ark Times blog gives the heads up that national mag TIME has Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee pegged as one of America's 5 Best Governors. The left-leaning Times gives the requisite partisan swipe, "Are things really that bad in other states? Uh . . . we mean, congrats, Mike."
The TIME plug certainly does accentuate the positive of Huckabee, who once put the rotund in routunda before losing a heap of weight (thanks in no small part to Dr. Philip Kern's program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) and getting gung-ho on the health bandwagon.

So is their ONLY criteria for naming him a great gov the fact that he used to be fat and now he's not? I guess we know who Man of the Year will be--Jared from the Subway commercials.
It's great he lost the weight and all, but I'm not sure that has made his government any better.
The governor is milking the weight loss (can you blame him?).
I think he deserves some kudos for ARKids First (not a typical Republican action - a government health care program) and for streamlining the driver's license registration and for pushing the original highway bond proposal (actually selling JGTucker's better than JGT did) and making sure the tobacco settlement went toward health care (we're one of the only state's that did that). I also agreed with him on some of the recent school reform stuff - more consolidation is needed.
But there's quite a bit to be critical of: the appearance of playing fast and loose with some ethical situations (the Osbourne gifts; the mansion gift shop), his slap at the state as a "bannana republic," his thin skin toward any criticism of his actions and the questions regarding his clemency policies (especially killer Wayne Dumond). Plus, I don't agree with his general conservative politics but other than that...maybe he's not so bad.
I have to pretty much agree with JP's assessment of the governor. My biggest issue with the man was his clemency policies or should I say "Lack of policies?". Up until that point I did not have any large issues with him.
And you would think he was the "first" person who was ever overweight and did something about it.
Great work!
